Milky Way Zero-point Calibration of the JAGB Method: Using Thermally Pulsing AGB Stars in Galactic Open Clusters

چکیده

Abstract We present a new calibration of the J -band absolute magnitude JAGB method based on thermally pulsing AGB stars that are members Milky Way open clusters, having distances and reddenings, independently compiled published by Marigo. A total 17 these photometrically selected J-Branch give M = ?6.40 mag with scatter ±0.40 mag, 1 ? mean ±0.10 mag. Combining field carbon star Lee this determination gives weighted average (MW) ?6.19 ± 0.04 (error mean). This value is statistically indistinguishable from determined for population distance indicators in LMC SMC, giving further evidence extremely reliable high luminosity universal applicability. zero-points three systems, ?6.20 0.01 (stat) ±0.04 (sys) becomes our best current estimate zero-point its associated errors. Finally, we note no found any significant dependence metallicity.

Deep Dredge-up in Intermediate-Mass Thermally Pulsing AGB Stars

We present results of the evolution of AGB stars of 3M⊙ and 5M⊙ with solar metallicity calculated with the Eggleton stellar evolution code (stars), which has a fully implicit and simultaneous method for solving for the stellar structure, convective mixing and nuclear burning. We introduce the concept of a viscous mesh in order to improve the numerical stability of the calculations. For the 5M⊙ ...

Thermally Pulsing AGB Models of Intermediate Mass Stars

We present a set of models of AGB stars with initial mass larger than 5 M⊙ as obtained with the FRANEC code. It includes model of Z=0.02 and Z=0.001, with and without mass loss.

Nucleosynthesis of light elements inside thermally pulsing AGB stars I. The case of intermediate-mass stars

The structural and nucleosynthetic evolution of 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7M stars with two metallicities (Z = 0.005 and 0.02) has been computed in detail, from the early pre-main sequence phase up to the thermally pulsing (TP) AGB phase or the onset of off-center carbon burning. Typically 10 to 20 thermal pulses have been followed for each TP-AGB object. This homogeneous and quite large set of models all...

Post-agb Stars in Globular Clusters and Galactic Halos

We discuss three aspects of post-AGB (PAGB) stars in old populations. (1) HST photometry of the nucleus of the planetary nebula (PN) K 648 in the globular cluster (GC) M15 implies a mass of 0.60 M , in contrast to the mean masses of white dwarfs in GCs of ∼0.5M . This suggests that K 648 is descended from a merged binary, and we infer that single Pop II stars do not produce visible PNe. (2) Yel...

buckling of viscoelastic composite plates using the finite strip method
